Legal Education - Where to Study

law studentsThe legal profession can command the highest salary amongst careers throughout the world . This is not achieved without a considerable workload as a law student. You have to run the extra distance and burn the candle at both ends absorbing case studies, apprenticeships and writing reports to name a few. These are simply the basic requirements for becoming a top achiever in the profession.

Of equal importance to the devotion to study, is the choice of institution to attend. If you want to become one of the most sort after lawyers in your field, then the school  that you choose is of paramount importance. There is a large choice of Universities in which to study law. The Times lists rankings throughout the world, as well as the top 90 or so establishments in the UK where you can gain a legal education. Cambridge University is rated as the top university currently in the UK for studying law, trumping Oxford and the LSE. Cambridge has been teaching law since the thirteenth century and is renowned for it’s excellence. Included in the Cambridge judicial alumni are a former president, a current member of the International Court of Justice, two former judges of the European Court of Justice and several members of the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords.   

Oxford University. While pipped for top position by Cambridge for teaching law, Oxford is rated as the top University in the country overall. Oxford's Law faculty has ancient traditions going back 850 years and their graduate law degress are amongst the most sort after in the world.

London School of Economics (LSE) Though it does not have the ancient traditions of Cambridge or Oxford, the LSE none the less is ranked third in the Time's Good University Guide for law. Founded 100 years ago the Law Department is one of the largest in the school. The LSE has a particularly international outlook with staff and students from all over the world.

University of Nottingham Currently ranked number four, Nottingham is consistantly listed among the top law schools in the UK and is also a leading centre for research and teaching in the world.
